(A page of links to things I find interesting)
Albert’s Basement – Melbourne-based label and distro run by all round excellent person Michael Zulicki of Mad Nanna, Love Chants, etc.
Avantwhatever – Melbourne-based developer, promoter and publisher of contemporary experimental music. Run by sound artist and electronic musician Ben Byrne.
Black Petal – Sydney-based label run by Anthony Guerra of Love Chants, Your Intestines, etc. Guerra would have to be one of my favourite current Australian guitarists too.
Breakdance the Dawn – Long-running CD-R/Tape label based in NSW, run by Matt Earle of xnobbqx, Muura and countless other essential Aus underground projects.
Chemical Imbalance – Relatively new but prolific bedroom CD-R/Tape label from Sydney, run by music fan and all round nice guy Mitch Soden. Releasing all sorts of experimental sounds from Aus and New Zealand.
Consumer Productions – Underground label from Hobart run by Ben Crothers of hMAS, End Show, Moe Grizzly, etc. Mainly active in the late 90’s/early 00’s but I believe that most of the back catalogue is still available if you ask nicely. There’s also lots of links to Hobart band pages, mp3 files, etc.
Frustration Jazz – My own small run CD-R label, started in 2016 and currently based in Melbourne.
Goulburn Street Records – Archival record label/blog covering Hobart underground music & culture from 1992 to 2002. Run by Julian Teakle of Native Cats, Frustrations, Rough Skies Records, etc.
Iceage Productions – Melbourne-based label run by Peter James (Solvent Cage, Monolith, etc), specialising in electronic, experimental, noise, drone and industrial music from all over the globe.
Make It Up Club – Weekly improvised music night, a mainstay of Melbourne’s experimental music community.
Wormwood Grasshopper – Excellent label based near Hobart, run by Ben Mason of Drunk Elk.
